Choosing To Hire A Painting Contrator or Choosing To Do It
Yourself--Which Will It Be Baton Rouge, La.? |
If you lived in the part of the country that we do you too would see
all the wonderful and glorious signs that Spring is in the air and old
man winter has begun his retreat. Flowers and trees are beginning to
bud and it seems that even the birds have a sweeter song to sing these
days. I love winter but I think I love Spring even more and the signs
of Spring time are becoming more pronounced with each passing day.
And with Spring fast approaching many homeowners are slowly
starting to come out of hibernation to a new awakening...a
new beginning that only Spring can bring. Winter brought with it some
brutal weather that might have damaged your home. Now is a good time to
take inventory of your house to see if there is any type of damage, and
if so, what is the extent of it and how best to go about having the
damaged area(s) repaired.
It's best to take a thorough look to see all that you need to see and
if that's not an option due to personal reasons you should consider
calling a reputable home inspector to help you with this chore. It
could possibly save you a great deal of money down the road. Sometimes
not being aware of damage to your home can prevent you from doing the
necessary repairs or
hiring a contractor to do them for you.
However, if all checks out well then you should breathe a sigh of
relief and begin to focus on your sprucing up campaign; that is, making
sure that your home hasn't lost its curb appeal, and just how would you
go about that? Well, first of all I would begin at the top and work my
way down to the ground; in other words, I would begin with a thorough
check of my roof; are there any missing or damaged shingles (if it's an
asphalt roof); check your gutters if you have them to see if debris and
other unwanted stuff is blocking or hindering the passing of water. By
doing these preliminary inspections you have an opportunity to discover
and repair damaged and problem areas before the situation becomes a
very costly one.
Take a look at your eaves (soffit and fascia boards) to see if it is
rotten or damaged from water or moisture; again, if it is be sure to
have it (wood) removed and replaced as quickly as possible. Rotten wood
can
have a domino effect in the sense that it can and will spread to
encroach on good lumber; this kind of problem can quickly get out of
hand if not properly addressed and rectified immediately. That's why a
Spring time inspection can be so effective in discovering troubled and
damaged areas that need to be taken care of before it becomes a major
expense.
Whatever type of siding you have on your home it goes without saying
that it must be inspected carefully to say if it is in need of some
type of repair and/or replacement. Be it vinyl siding, brick, aluminum
siding, hardi plank, concrete, wood, masonite, or some other type
of wood based product,
you should check it out thoroughly to get a true picture of its
condition and follow up with the necessary repairs. By doing this you
can keep your house looking great and in tip top shape year round.
You might be uncomfortable checking out your house foundation and if
you are this is yet another reason to call out a home inspector that
has the experience and the background to help you examine your home
both inside and out. Whether your house sits on a concrete slab, piers,
cinder blocks, or anything else you should have it inspected to see if
there's any damaged that you might not be aware of and if so try to get
it corrected as soon as you possibly can.
A good home inspector will not only inspect the exterior of your home
but he/she will also do a thorough examing of the interior of your home
as well. When the inspection is completely done you should be able to
get a clear picture of the condition of your home and what procedures
are in order so that you can go about rectifying all problems as soon
as you can. Remember, addressing troublesome issues in their infancy is
the key to staving off what could prove to be a major expense down the
road.
For some people Spring seems to be synonymous with home improvements
and that's because when the weather is so beautiful it presents an
ideal time to begin sprucing up your home. Take for instance the
exterior of your home; will it be able to endure another year without
any maintenance at all or will this be the year you decide to give it
that long overdue paint job? And if so will you be providing the honors
or will you seek out an exterior painting contractor to assist you with
this task?
Many homeowners here in Baton Rouge and across the country
have tackled this problem with great success; however, for many, many
more it proved to be a stumbling block to say the least. It really is a
task that requires considerable contemplation before the actual
implemention of the job. Painting the interior and/or the exterior of
your house is not the easiest thing in the world to do; trust me on
this one.
Whether you decide to call out an interior painting contractor to paint
the interior of your home and/or an exterior painting contractor to
paint the outside of your home be sure to get more than one estimate
and get it in writing. It's imperative that you do a background check
on
all prospective candidates as I have often mentioned, and by all means
check out his/her references as well. If possible take the time to view
their work in person if that's an option and speak with the homeowners
and/or property owners to see if they were pleased with the contractor
and his/her crew.
There are many homeowners who prefer hiring a self employed house
painter that works alone as oppose to hiring a house painting
contractor that has a full crew. There are many house painters in Baton
Rouge who work alone and yet produces top quality work. Whatever you
decide to do always do your homework to make sure your prospective
candidate checks out with a clean bill of health; in other words,
he/she
has no criminal background and on top of it all has good references to
back up his character and good business ethics.
Spring time, what a wonderful time to be alive and among the living.
What a great time to see all the beautiful and splendid looking flowers
and trees in full bloom. Man, in my opinion this is really the
"greatest show on earth" and as a contractor I can hardly
contain my enthusiasm and anticipation of the coming season.
Yes it true, winter was tough and a couple of times it looked
liked the roof just might collapse in on us but
fortunately we made it through it all
and now we gladly anticipate the arrival of a long awaited
friend--Spring.
